The thesis analyses the current situation of urban bicycle accessibility in Lalitpur Metropolitan City by looking at the infrastructure already in place, the policy efforts being taken, and the usage patterns. Main obstacles and problems preventing the development of a bike-friendly environment in Lalitpur Metropolitan City are identified with a focus on road safety, traffic congestion, and public perception. Lalitpur Metropolitan City is compared to other cities that have successful bike-friendly initiatives to gain knowledge and lessons that may be used to drive policy recommendations. Attitudes, preferences, and behaviours of various stakeholders (cyclists, locals, and policymakers) towards urban bicycle accessibility are examined through surveys and interviews, to understand their perspectives. Effective policy recommendations based on the insights gained from the analysis, considering the socioeconomic and geographic context of the region, with a focus on practical and long-lasting initiatives to improve urban bicycle accessibility are developed. Throughout the thesis, viewpoints of various stakeholders are considered and they are involved in the research process to make sure the suggested policies and reforms meet their requirements and expectations.
